Medicaid is a free or low-cost health insurance program for low-income families and children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities (and more, in some states). It may have a different name in your state.
Some states did not expand Medicaid to cover low-income adults. You can contact your state’s Medicaid department to find out if you’re eligible.
If you are eligible for Medicaid, you technically can enroll in Marketplace (ACA) plans, but you won’t be eligible for savings.
Marketplace coverage refers to health insurance plans that are part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) – sometimes referred to as “Obamacare.”
Our website and phone team are completely free. By law, we display the same plans and prices as Healthcare.gov does.
When you enroll in a plan, the insurance company pays us a commission rate. By law, these rates cannot affect how we display or recommend plans.
This means our only goal is to help you find the best plan for your particular needs, providing unbiased, caring, expert advice.
During the annual Open Enrollment Period, almost all Americans can enroll in health insurance through the Federal Marketplace.
The Open Enrollment Period for most states is November 1st – December 15th, 2018.
Extended deadlines for specific states:
  • California—January 15, 2019
  • Colorado—January 12, 2019
  • Massachusetts—January 23, 2019
  • Minnesota—January 13, 2019
  • New York—January 31, 2019
  • Rhode Island—December 31, 2018
  • Washington DC—January 31, 2019
If you enroll by December 15th, your coverage will begin January 1st, 2019.
If you’re in a state with an extended deadline, enroll by January 15th for coverage to begin February 1st—or enroll by January 31st for coverage to begin March 1st.
Outside of the Open Enrollment Period, you can only enroll if you have a Qualifying Life Event, such as losing your health insurance, adopting a baby, or getting married. Find out if you qualify here.
