How does applying on HealthSherpa work?

The first step is finding the right plan for you and/or your family. Once you find the right plan, you enroll through our site. HealthSherpa is linked into the Federal Marketplace, where your application is processed and enrolled.

After submitting your application through HealthSherpa, you’ll receive a confirmation email letting you know that your application is being processed. It’s important that you keep this email for your records. It includes your HealthSherpa Confirmation ID number that we use for reference.

When your application goes through and you are enrolled, you will receive an Enrollment Confirmation email. If the Federal Marketplace is requesting documents to verify personal information, you will also receive a follow-up email with detailed directions on how to send the documents in.

What does HealthSherpa help me with?

We have certified application counselors and insurance agents you can speak with to talk about any plan selection, eligibility, and enrollment questions you may have.

If you applied for a plan using HealthSherpa, we can assist you with any updates to your application, sending in requested documentation, and navigating your enrollment with the Federal Marketplace and Carrier.

What type of plans does HealthSherpa offer?

HealthSherpa shows up-to-date information on Federal Marketplace health plans. We are able to enroll people in Federal Marketplace plans. Click here to see if your state is in the Federal Marketplace.

We do not offer separate dental, vision, or ancillary plans at the moment.

I receive emails from the Federal Marketplace stating that I have a message. What are these emails about?

You can check the message they refer to by creating an account or logging in at Healthcare.gov, and checking the message center.

If the message states that you need to finish selecting a plan, and we've already separately emailed you confirming that you are enrolled, you do not need to select a plan again.

What happens after I submit my application?

After you click "submit" during enrollment on our site, your application will be processed though the Federal Marketplace. We will check to see if your eligibility results (who is qualified to enroll, determined subsidy / savings, determined Cost Sharing Reductions, etc.) are different from your quoted eligibility.

If the information is different after it is processed on the Federal Marketplace, we will contact you immediately to discuss. If it is the same day or extremely close, we will proceed to enroll you.

What happens after I am enrolled?

You will receive an enrollment confirmation email from HealthSherpa. This email has important information on it such as premium amount, your plan name and carrier, carrier phone number, and an attachment of your eligibility result and application.

After you are enrolled in the Federal Marketplace, your information is transmitted to your insurance carrier. Your carrier will reach out to you requesting payment and will provide you with detailed enrollment information.

What do I need to do after I’m enrolled?

Make "Binder" payment aka your first premium payment. If you miss this payment, you may lose your coverage. If you do not hear from your Carrier within one week of enrollment please call us to finalize payment.

Send in any documents requested from the Federal Marketplace. Please refer to your “Follow-up email” for details if this is applicable to you.

Can I setup payment options with HealthSherpa?

Am I qualified to enroll right now?

Currently it is Special Enrollment Period (SEP). In order to be qualified to enroll during SEP, you or the people applying in your family must have a Qualifying Life Event (QLE) in the past 60 days. If you have had a QLE, please apply within 60 days of that specified date, otherwise you may have to wait to enroll during Open Enrollment Period.

If you have not had a QLE in the past 60 days, you must wait for Open Enrollment Period (OEP) in order to apply. This year OEP starts on November 1, 2016 and ends January 31, 2017.

Is HealthSherpa the same thing as the Healthcare Marketplace/Obamacare?

For the most part, yes. The difference is that HealthSherpa provides a simplistic approach that saves you time and puts the power of finding the right plan for you and your family in your hands. HealthSherpa is a simple way to compare plans and enroll individuals and families in Federal Marketplace plans. The plans and tax credit (subsidy) determinations reflect those that are displayed on the Federal Marketplace, www.healthcare.gov. When you enroll in a plan at HealthSherpa, you’re enrolling in a plan at the Federal Marketplace.
