How does applying on HealthSherpa work?

The first step is entering some basic information to get a quote to see how much you can save on your health plan. Then you can shop for and compare plans so you can find the best health coverage for you and/or your family. The next step would be to enroll. HealthSherpa is linked to the Federal Marketplace, where your application is processed and enrolled.

After submitting your application through HealthSherpa, you’ll receive a confirmation email with your plan information as well as any next steps required like submitting documents and making a payment.

What type of plans does HealthSherpa offer?

HealthSherpa offers all the same plans as the Federal Marketplace. This means you can shop and compare all plans available in your state. Plus, we offer dental and vision.

What happens after I am enrolled?

Once you click “submit”, your application will be processed through the Federal Marketplace. This is where we’ll double check your eligibility results — who is qualified to enroll, how much you’re eligible to save, etc. If this information is different after your application is processed, we’ll reach out to you immediately.

Once you’re enrolled, you should receive a confirmation email from HealthSherpa. This email has important information including your monthly premium amount, plan name, carrier name, and an attachment of your eligibility results and application.

What do I need to do after I’m enrolled?

You must make your first monthly premium payment or you risk losing your coverage. You can call us at 866-796-6017 to make your payment.

If the Federal Marketplace requested any additional documents, you must submit these to confirm your enrollment. You can refer to the “follow-up email” from HealthSherpa for details.

Can I set up payment options with HealthSherpa?

I receive emails from the Federal Marketplace stating that I have a message. What are these emails about?

You can check the message they refer to by creating an account or logging in at HealthCare.gov, and checking the message center.

Am I qualified to enroll right now?

Depending on the time of year, you may (or may not) be eligible to enroll in a new health insurance plan.

During the annual Open Enrollment Period, almost all Americans can enroll in health insurance through the Federal Marketplace. If you're looking to enroll in 2018 health coverage, the Open Enrollment Period is November 1st, 2017–December 15, 2017.

Otherwise, there’s a Special Enrollment Period for people who have experienced a major life event. This includes losing your health insurance, adopting a baby, or getting married. Learn more here.
