"How to enroll in health insurance during Open Enrollment Period"
Need to get insured or change your plans? It’s now easier, for a limited time.
For ACA plans, typically anyone can enroll during “Open Enrollment” which runs Nov 1–Dec 15, and outside of those dates, people need a qualifying “life change” to enroll (such as a birth, marriage, moving cities, etc).
Due to the exceptional circumstances of Covid-19, most states are now allowing anyone* to enroll without a qualifying life change from Feb 15th through August 15th also – they’re calling this a “Covid Special Enrollment Period.”
In these states, the dates are slightly different:
Connecticut: Feb 16th – May 15th
Idaho: Mar 1st – Mar 31st
Maryland: Feb 16th – May 15th
Massachusetts: now – July 23rd
Minnesota: Feb 16th – May 17th
New Jersey: now – May 15th
Nevada: Feb 15th – May 15th
Pennsylvania: Feb 15th – May 15th
Rhode Island: Feb 15th – May 15th
Washington State: Feb 15th – May 15th
Vermont: Feb 16th – May 14th
Washington DC: now – May 15th
For all other states, the “Covid Special Enrollment Period” is active from Feb 15th through August 15th.
* Several states are only allowing uninsured people to enroll without a qualifying life change:
California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington DC.
